New Works Grant for Black BC based Filmmakers

Deadline: August 15

New Works Grant for Black BC based Filmmakers

A project-based initiative aimed at supporting underrespresented artists in our community. The first iteration of this initiative is a peer adjudicated grant of $2000 for a Black filmmaker living on the unceded lands known as British Columbia. Projects can vary from short to feature, from scripted to doc, from experimental to animation. The funds are meant to support artist fees while you work on your project but can be used as you see fit.

Questions can be sent to info@experimentalforest.ca

Eligible Applicants:
Identify as Black
Live and work on the unceded lands known as British Columbia
Are a filmmaker or media artist
No previous works required; applications will be assessed on their artistic merit and general feasibility.

Eligible Projects:
Any audio-visual format including: short films, feature films, mid-length, documentary, experimental, animation, interactive, new media, etc.
Any genre at any stage of development or production

A note on Peer Adjudication:
For this granting series all jurors will be compromised of working filmmakers who are Black, Indigenous or People of Colour. We note this as a means of recognizing the role predominantly white jury bodies play in furthering the inequity within our communities.
