Call For Artists: Black, Indigenous, and Artists of Colour – Seymour Art Gallery

Seymour Art Gallery, established 1985, is a non-profit public gallery in the heart of Deep Cove, North Vancouver and the only public gallery located in the District of North Vancouver. We welcome more than 26,000 visitors yearly to our gallery, Gallery Shop, and special events. The gallery also plays an educational role by organizing programs for schools and activities for the public in conjunction with our exhibitions.

Like other galleries all across the globe, we’ve been following the important current conversations about acknowledging, and working against, systemic racism. Looking closely at our own organization, we acknowledge that the Seymour Art Gallery has more work to do to better support Black, Indigenous, and artists of colour and to engage with their communities. We are committed to meaningful change through action: to learn, listen, and ultimately, to do better.

Eligibility:
This juried group exhibition is looking to provide exposure to Black, Indigenous, and artists of colour; therefore, eligibility is limited to BIPOC artists living on the unceded lands currently known as British Columbia. Artwork may be individually or collaboratively produced. Local drop off and pick up is required.

Criteria:
Only original works created since January 2018 are eligible.

We accept work in all media. There are no size restrictions.

Artists (or artistic collaborations) must submit a minimum of three and a maximum of ten pieces.

Between three and five pieces per selected artist (or artistic collaboration) will be displayed. Works submitted should be from a single series or body of work as it will be displayed together.

Availability:
Work for exhibition must be available for drop off on Sunday, September 27 and will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition: October 3 – October 31, 2020.

Presentation:
Work must be suitably prepared for exhibition, ready for presentation. Wall mounted work must be appropriately framed (or have a professional look with finished sides) and must be wired for hanging.

Fees and honorarium:
There is no application fee for this exhibition. Artists do not need to be members of the gallery to apply for this call. Exhibiting artists will be paid an honorarium of $375, which will include Seymour Art Gallery’s membership fee. Our annual membership is $25 and revenues support our non-profit gallery’s exhibitions and programs.

Sales:
Work is not required to be for sale; pieces not for sale (NFS) should be labeled as such and should include a value for insurance purposes. Seymour Art Gallery will retain 35% on any works (or orders) sold; revenues support our non-profit art gallery’s exhibitions and programs.

Your artist bio (including experience and/or education)

Your artist statement, speaking specifically to the submitted body of work
