2021 Vancouver International Dance Festival Open Call

The Vancouver International Dance Festival is now accepting applications for the 2021 Festival. Our 21st edition is focused on supporting the practice and visibility of diverse Canadian contemporary dance artists and companies through professional live stream presentations.

The VIDF programs work that advances the art of contemporary dance through innovation, experimentation, rigor and physical discipline. We are seeking works that can be creatively re-imagined for the camera. Performances will be captured and streamed with multiple cameras switched live, offering a unique, cinematic perspective of each choreography. Social spacing restrictions must be applied to all selected choreographies until COVID-19 mitigation policies are relaxed.

Works will be presented for 4 consecutive dates, with a performance fee of $1,500 per performance. Companies/artists will be provided with 1 week of residency and 2 days of tech rehearsals prior to the performances.

The 2021 festival will take place from March 3-27 2021. 4 selected works will be presented during these March dates, with the possibility of programming additional companies/artists extended throughout the year.

VIDF performances will take place at Vancouver’s KW Production Studio, a 32’ x 50’ black box with a sprung, dance vinyl covered floor and 40+ theatre lights. Residencies will take place in the KW Atrium Studio.
