Call for Artists in Communities 2023 – Vancouver Park Board
Open to artists in all of Metro Vancouver. The Artists in Communities Program (AIC) is based on principles of community cultural development – building community by making art together. It supports artists working in community contexts and encourages a wide variety of interactions between artist and community members. AIC looks for a lasting physical and/or social legacy from projects; this could include new community understandings of creative processes, the development of collaborative practices or an artwork that remains in the community in some form. AIC supports community-engaged arts practices that see artists collaborate with community members who may not see themselves as artists, working together over an extended period of time as creators, producers, performers and active audiences. Contributing to the growing vibrancies of our neighbourhoods this program seeks to inspire participation and relationship building where art becomes a catalyst for individual and community engagement. Artists in Communities advances cultural equity and accessibility for underrepresented artists and communities, and prioritizes work that increases voice and visibility of xʷməθkʷəyə̓ m (Musqueam), Sḵwxwú7mesh ̱ (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-waututh) arts and culture on the land.
