Home. It’s a word that is full of resonance for all of us. DREAMS OF THE DEAD explores the loss of a family home in Richmond that was demolished to make way for new houses, for new families. The place became hyper-charged with meaning and memory in the wake of my grandmother’s death; in exploring this part of my personal history, I am exploring how all of us relate emotionally to place, and how places become a repository for memory, especially when they are lost to us. – Marlene Rodgers. The film is available to view at any time, but the livestream screening (7:00 pm) will be followed by a discussion and Q&A (7:30 pm). The documentary examines the filmmaker’s specific experience as a descendant of European settlers, but the discussion with participants will also address the larger context of Richmond’s existence on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish, and the city’s history of changing landscape and culture.
