Webinar: The Lost Textile of Ryukyu
Zoom
1pm
Textile Artists Guild of Richmond (TAGOR)
Join us in celebration of Asian Heritage Month. The Ryukyu Kingdom (15C-19C) flourished in Okinawa through developing international trade. Their culture was famed for its unique and beautifully dyed and woven fabrics. During and after WWII, many of these skills were lost in time — including one particularly exquisite type of semi-transparent cloth called “ton-byan”. This video is an interesting presentation by Japan’s leading textile designer Sudo Reiko as she explores the islands of today’s Okinawa, searching for the secrets of this lost textile treasure.
