SUMMARY:Richmond Arts Coalition's "From Fray to Feather - Part 1" Youth Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:October 1 – October 12\nRichmond Arts Coalition’s “From Fray to Feather – Part 1” Youth Art Exhibition\nRichmond Cultural Centre Annex\n7660 Minoru Gate\nFrom Fray to Feather – Part 1 is an exhibition of collaborative art in progress – created by students in Richmond working with local printmaking artist Mika Imada. This Culture Days project is a collaboration between the Richmond Arts Coalition (RAC) and School District 38. Prior to the exhibition\, Imada will lead a series of workshops with Blair Elementary School students around the theme of environmentalism. Students will work to carve their own pieces featuring animals\, objects\, or places that connect their personal lives with the environment in Richmond. The exhibition will feature the students’ designs printed on paper and will have an area where you can make your own relief print! \nThese student designs will later be printed onto fabric to create patterned feathers. After the Annex exhibition\, textiles artist Shelby Page will then lead Burnett Secondary School students in using this fabric to craft wings modeled on the Pacific Great Blue Heron. This final piece will be on display at the Richmond Art Gallery – Art Lounge for the month of December. \nMika Imada is a Richmond-based artist whose love for drawing and storytelling began when she was a kid. She took visual art throughout high school\, experimenting with many different mediums and from there\, chose to pursue her education in the creative field. She graduated from Capilano University where she studied 2D animation and visual development. In her free time\, she’s drawing\, painting\, or crafting. \nShelby Page is a multimedia artist from New Westminster who works with textiles\, leather\, and digital illustration. She makes costumes and props through her studio Running With Scissors Creative and teaches art classes through various programs in BC. Her work in Richmond includes living history costuming for heritage sites and programs with Steveston Historical Society. She has a BA and MFA in Theatre Production and Design\, and she credits her theatre background with her love of working collaboratively with other artists on large and spectacular projects. She is the recipient of a Richmond Arts Award in 2024 for Artistic Innovation and Excellence. \nWe acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia\, the support of the City of Richmond\, and the in-kind contributions from Phoenix Art Workshop. \n\nWebsite: https://culturedays.ca/en/events/2c63845c-e001-4ab4-9a5d-2469c3739b93
