SUMMARY:Festival of Recorded Movement in Richmond
DESCRIPTION:November 8 – 16\, 2024\nFestival of Recorded Movement in Richmond\nCultural Centre Annex & Lipont Gallery\n\nCinevolution\, City of Richmond\, and Lipont Gallery are partnering with F-O-R-M to bring a taste of the Festival of Recorded Movement to Richmond screens for the first time!\n\nScreens are an integral part of our daily lives\, constantly within reach. Yet rarely do we pause to consider what they might offer beyond the everyday. This year’s Public Screens program invites you to engage with these familiar surfaces from a different perspective. Each film\, though under 5 minutes\, encourages us to step out of our routines and reflect on the pieces of ourselves we don’t often take time to celebrate—the moments that shape us\, stay with us\, and shift as we move through the world.\n\nPreviously only on view in Vancouver\, these films can now be experienced at the lobby of the Richmond Cultural Centre Annex (7660 Minoru Gate\, Richmond\, BC V6Y 1R8) and on the outdoor screens at Lipont Gallery (4211 No. 3 Road Richmond BC across from the Aberdeen Station) throughout the festival period.\n\nhttps://www.lipontgallery.ca/artists/formrichmond/

SUMMARY:Unforeseen Clouds – Paintings by Kai Liu
DESCRIPTION:Ongoing – February 19\nUnforeseen Clouds – Paintings by Kai Liu\nLipont Gallery\n4211 No. 3 Road\nClosing Reception: February 18th\, 2025\, 6-9pm\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/closing-reception-unforeseen-clouds-paintings-by-kai-liu-tickets-1227046823079\nThis body of work is an extension of my exploration of the “meaning” and “appearance” of landscapes during my graduate studies. The central theme of this series is clouds\, which frequently appear in traditional paintings and literature as symbols of transformation and fluidity. These works reflect my thoughts on “change” and “continuity” during my journey of immigrating to Canada and pursuing an art life\, as well as my reflections on past experiences. Formed by the interplay of earth\, water\, fire\, and wind\, clouds constantly move between the tangible and the intangible. – Kai Liu 2024\nWebsite: https://www.lipontgallery.ca/artists/kai-liu/

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Speak No (emergency) by Persimmon Blackbridge
DESCRIPTION:January 18 – March 23\nExhibition: Speak No (emergency) by Persimmon Blackbridge\nRichmond Art Gallery\n7700 Minoru Gate\nOpening Reception: January 18\, 2pm-4pm\nArtwork by Donation Giveaway: March 23 ( https://www.richmondartgallery.org/give-away )\nIn this stunning installation\, artist Persimmon Blackbridge urgently responds to the devastation of and despair around climate change. Covering the gallery walls with dozens of handfashioned figures\, she creates a desolate\, desperate army who have come together in the face of rampant forest fires\, polluted oceans\, and climate denial. Blackbridge’s raw\, frenetic aesthetic integrates found wood\, Barbie doll parts\, bits of animal bone\, scrap metal\, and other recycled materials typically considered trash.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/speaknoemergency\nGeorgia Straight: https://www.straight.com/arts/richmond-art-gallery-opens-2025-by-highlighting-climate-and-plastic-issues\nPancouver Article: https://pancouver.ca/richmond-art-gallerys-dear-plastic-exhibition-reflects-on-a-ubiquitous-and-inescapable-material/

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Dear Plastic
DESCRIPTION:January 18 – March 23\nExhibition: Dear Plastic\nRichmond Art Gallery\n7700 Minoru Gate\nOpening Reception: January 18\, 2pm-4pm\nArtwork by Ari Bayuaji\, Emily Hermant\, Caroline Monnet\, Alex Tedlie-Stursberg\, and Cheryl Wong. Curated by Zoë Chan. The five featured artists of Dear Plastic straddle the divide between what is considered artificial versus natural in their engagement with plastic. They clearly delight in the potential of plastic as artistic material\, which they reuse\, repurpose\, or reimagine to fashion visually arresting works. The thought-provoking pieces in this exhibition avoid a simple environmentalist stance or nostalgia for untouched landscapes.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/dear-plastic\nGeorgia Straight: https://www.straight.com/arts/richmond-art-gallery-opens-2025-by-highlighting-climate-and-plastic-issues\nPancouver Article: https://pancouver.ca/richmond-art-gallerys-dear-plastic-exhibition-reflects-on-a-ubiquitous-and-inescapable-material/
