SUMMARY:Exhibition: The Roaming Peach Blossom Spring
DESCRIPTION:June 28 – August 24\nExhibition: The Roaming Peach Blossom Spring\nRichmond Art Gallery\n7700 Minoru Gate\nGuest Curator: Rebecca Wang 王晨釔. In a realm where ancient mythology collides with modern dilemmas\, Shanghai-based artist Qiu Anxiong and Vancouver-based artist Howie Tsui invite us to step into their fantastical worlds\, reimagining the mystique of the Song dynasty (960–1279). Through contemporary adaptations of classical literature and martial arts fiction (wuxia)\, their work brings to life mythical creatures\, otherworldly spirits\, and shape-shifting swordsmen who navigate landscapes fraught with the tensions of resource extraction\, war\, urbanization\, and surveillance. This exhibition offers an immersive journey through a diverse selection of animation films\, video works\, paintings\, and prints\, where fragmented narratives of the past\, present\, and speculative futures converge into one dynamic\, ever-evolving dimension.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/roaming-peach-blossom-spring

SUMMARY:Exhibition – Enigmas & Dreams: Works on paper by Alvin Jang & Anna Wong
DESCRIPTION:June 28 – August 24\nExhibition – Enigmas & Dreams: Works on paper by Alvin Jang & Anna Wong\nRichmond Art Gallery\n7700 Minoru Gate\nEnigmas & Dreams: works on paper by Alvin Jang & Anna Wong offers up a dynamic pairing of two under recognized local Chinese Canadian artists. Alvin Jang’s (b. 1950) sense of the surreal streams through his sci-fi-inspired series The Colony\, depicting a colourful world overrun by a dense population of worms\, and Pillow Talk\, evoking a hallucinatory series of dreams\, rendered in a hyper-realistic style. A selection of abstract drawings by artist Anna Wong (b. 1930–d. 2013) from the late 1960s brings to light the hybridity of her visual vernacular\, which marries the gesturality of Chinese brush painting with the experimental mark making of Abstract Expressionism.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/enigmas-dreams

SUMMARY:Collection Close-up: In Flight by Pnina Granirer
DESCRIPTION:June 28 – August 24\nCollection Close-up: In Flight by Pnina Granirer\nRichmond Art Gallery\n7700 Minoru Gate\nIn Flight is from Pnina Granirer’s West Coast series\, where she draws our attention to the native fauna of British Columbia and its wilderness. In Flight features three Canada geese in mid-flight. Granirer is fascinated by these iconic birds\, which she associates with freedom. Whereas others may see them as pesky intruders\, the artist finds inspiration in them: “In the air they’re wonderful…When they’re flying together\, they become a squadron of power and freedom.”\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/in-flight-pnina-granirer
