SUMMARY:Canada on the Rocks (Culture Days)
DESCRIPTION:September 21 – September 22\nCanada on the Rocks (Culture Days)\nRichmond Cultural Centre\n7700 Minoru Gate\n10am-5pm\nRock painting is an ancient and fascinating art form cherished by many. Last year\, the Canadian Rock Paintings Association (CRPA) held an exhibition titled “Richmond On The Rocks\,” which was met with great enthusiasm. Building on the success of last year’s event\, this year\, CRPA is hosting another extraordinary exhibition called “Canada On The Rocks.” Artists will utilize their keen insights and distinctive perspectives\, combined with their painting skills\, to showcase Canada’s diverse facets on stones. From the country’s landscapes\, cultural heritage\, and social life to the harmonious living of various ethnic groups\, all these elements will be beautifully represented in this exhibition.\nWebsite: https://culturedays.ca/en/events/a0f8cc53-75f2-4723-a2d4-0157eb11730c

DESCRIPTION:September 28 – October 6\nArt Exhibition: (Be)coming Home (Culture Days)\nRichmond Cultural Centre – Atrium\n7700 Minoru Gate\n“(Be)Coming Home” is a community-based art project at Branscombe House produced by Peisen Ding. Throughout 2024\, the artist will invite local residents to participate as collaborators to tell their definitions of home and co-create a home-like installation through various activities\, aiming to build a public sense of an inclusive\, shared\, and caring community. This exhibition will showcase the works of individuals who have participated in this project as well as Peisen’s work. Together\, it hopes to convey various meanings of home and celebrate the diverse presence of Richmond community members.\nWebsite: https://culturedays.ca/en/events/914f0d2e-6efa-4159-ae3c-774b0d8d6244

SUMMARY:Pop-up Artist Space Exhibition – Marsha Lynn Hoggan and Scott Samuels
DESCRIPTION:October 1 – October 31\nPop-up Artist Space Exhibition – Marsha Lynn Hoggan and Scott Samuels\nSteveston Museum and Post Office\n3811 Moncton Street\nWe are thrilled to welcome back local potter Marsha Lynn Hoggan to the Pop Up Art space. Marsha has been making pottery since 2005. Her functional work is mainly porcelain\, loving the translucency and the way it glows after glaze firing. Working with clay has also allowed her to experiment with raku as well as sculpting. Marsha’s whimsical garden and floral designs as well as her orcas designs are so worth coming in to have a look. Scott Samuels has been on an artistic journey ever since he was a young boy from creating lego structures to discovering his talent for drawing and as well as his creative abilities. Scott gave up art in his teens and then rediscovered his talent while recovering from a major injury. From portraits to landscapes\, Scott continues to explore the many facets of this art.\nWebsite: https://historicsteveston.ca/fall-into-our-pop-up-artist-space-and-discover-our-october-artists/

DESCRIPTION:October 19 – December 31\nPhotography Exhibition: HONG WO 同和\nCity of Richmond Archives\, Richmond Cultural Centre\n7700 Minoru Gate\nHong Wo & Co. General Merchants and its owner Ling Lam have a rich history that intersects with the development of Richmond. In the late nineteenth century\, Ling Lam\, a young immigrant from China\, arrived in Victoria. Despite such barriers\, Lam soon moved to Vancouver\, where he studied English and worked in local canneries. In 1895\, Lam purchased property in Steveston and opened the Hong Wo store\, whose Chinese name 同和 means “Peace Together” or “Living in Harmony.”\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/hong-wo
