May 5th is a national holiday in Japan called “Children’s Day” or Kodomo-no-hi\, a special occasion to honour children’s happiness and well-being. Visitors can join us in a the tradition of making “kabuto” (samurai) helmets out of origami during the Children’s Day weekend. In Japan\, homes and businesses may display miniature samurai warrior doll sets (with armor\, helmet & sword)\, and children will make these paper hats to commemorate the holiday. This festival brings the community together to enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossom alongside the cultural richness of Japan. Between 11 am and 4 pm\, the Hanami Tent will offer displays and demonstrations from local artisans including calligraphy\, bonsai and origami\, as well as the opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony. In the Sakura Tent\, visitors can experience an ikebana demonstration\, and performances by taiko drummers\, folk singers and dancers.
