SUMMARY:No. 3 Road Art Columns: Andrew Talbot\, Emily Lau\, Susan Taylor
DESCRIPTION:February 6 – July 31\nNo. 3 Road Art Columns: Andrew Talbot\, Emily Lau\, Susan Taylor\nSkytrain pillars\,\nLansdowne and Aberdeen Stations\nThe work of artists Andrew Talbot\, Emily Lau and Susan Taylor have been installed in the large\, backlit display cases at the base of three concrete support columns and will be on view until July 31. This exhibition was produced in partnership with the Richmond Arts Coalition and highlights work by Richmond artists. Andrew Talbot’s paintings at Lansdowne Station present a vibrant celebration of Richmond’s wildlife expressed as a harmonious composition of multiple layers converging into a unified whole. Emily Lau’s digital paintings\, also at Lansdowne Station\, celebrate the diversity and beauty of individual stories and contributions made by Richmond residents’ and visitors’ day-to-day lives. Susan Taylor’s photographs at Aberdeen Station explore the complexity of lines and nets within the culture of fishing\, towing and other water-based activities. The intricate structures of the nets can be transformed into a terrible beauty when\, as ghost gear—damaged and abandoned—they can snare marine life.\nRichmond Sentinel: https://richmondsentinel.ca/article-detail/43058/no-3-road-art-columns-highlight-richmonds-cultural-diversity-agriculture-and-maritime-roots \nRichmond News: https://www.richmond-news.com/local-arts/lansdowne-aberdeen-canada-line-columns-lit-up-with-local-art-8211799

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Ya-Wei Lin – Invisibility
DESCRIPTION:Ongoing – June 24\nExhibition: Ya-Wei Lin – Invisibility\nRichmond Cultural Centre Annex – The Annex Gallery\n7660 Minoru Gate\nPhotography\, whether still or animated\, is Richmond-based artist Ya-Wei Lin’s preferred medium for narrating the world\, including daily activities\, life experiences\, events\, and moments as she sees them. Since 2010\, her ongoing photographic practice has focused on exploring the meaning of visibility in the context of urban culture. These images depict the fleeting and subtle moments of the seemingly unchanging cityscape\, such as the geometric shapes of the many high-rise buildings and urban dwellers’ routine social behavior.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/Invisibility

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Membranes and Pith 305 & Reverie 25
DESCRIPTION:April 15 2024 – March 15\, 2025\nExhibition: Membranes and Pith 305 & Reverie 25\nCanada Line – Aberdeen Station\nThe Aberdeen Canada Line Station Art Wrap is presented in partnership with City of Richmond Public Art. What emotions or memories can food unearth? What do our meals reveal about our sense of belonging\, family and history? In Membranes and Pith 305 and Reverie 25\, Vancouver-based multidisciplinary artist Cherry Archer utilizes the evocative powers of culinary plants deeply rooted in her Trinidadian heritage to create images that awaken memories of her family and culture. She freezes produce in water\, creating a “botanical ice tile\,” which she then illuminates with coloured light\, photographs\, and prints in large format.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/cherry-archer

DESCRIPTION:April 20 – June 30\nExhibition – Hazel Meyer: The Marble in the Basement\nRichmond Art Gallery\n7700 Minoru Gate\nOpening Reception: April 20\, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm\nWhat gets stored in a shoebox? Deposited into an archive? Shoved into a corner? Catalogued as important? Fever pitched towards a garbage can? Centered on a pile of marble scraps that possibly once belonged to iconic Canadian artist experimental filmmaker Joyce Wieland\, local artist Hazel Meyer’s The Marble in the Basement untangles issues of power\, memory\, and inheritance by anthropomorphizing a forgotten object from this influential Canadian artist’s domestic archive.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/hazelmeyer

SUMMARY:Steveston Museum Pop-up Space Exhibition – Shamsi Ashti and Jenifer Gustavsen
DESCRIPTION:Ongoing – June 30\nSteveston Museum Pop-up Space Exhibition – Shamsi Ashti and Jenifer Gustavsen\nSteveston Museum and Post Office\n3811 Moncton Street\nWe are thrilled to welcome Jenifer Gustavsen back into the pop up space. Jenifer has been oil painting for the last 2 years. From 1996 to 2006 she worked as a classical animator\, which is hand drawn animation. Her film credits include Dreamworks films such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat\, Road to Eldorado\, and Sinbad\, Legend of the Seven Seas\, as well as the indie film The Triplets of Belleville. Shamsi Ashti stands for everything her last name represents in her native language\, Persian. Ashti means peace\, not as in the opposite of war\, but as in achieving tranquility and rekindling a friendship. Shamsi\, a Richmond resident for over 30 years\, spent most of her childhood in a tranquil family garden in northern Tehran\, just beneath the majestic hills and range of the Alborz Mountain.\nWebsite: https://historicsteveston.ca/popup-june/

SUMMARY:Exhibition: The Industrial Shoreline
DESCRIPTION:Ongoing – August 26\nExhibition: The Industrial Shoreline\nRichmond City Hall\n6911 No. 3 Road\nThe Industrial Shoreline showcases six large wall-hanging quilt pieces by Pender Island-based textile artist Susan Purney Mark\, depicting scenes of working harbours in BC. Drawing from her experiences of living near the ocean and traveling along its coastlines\, Mark’s work highlights the tension between the high demands of the marine shipping industry and the collective aspiration for a sustainable marine ecosystem\, which human activities both impact and depend on. This complexity is conveyed through the contrast between the material choice of the intricate\, subtle hand-dyed and hand-sewn fabrics\, and the portrayals of rigid\, patinated metal cranes and shipping containers.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/the-industrial-shoreline

SUMMARY:Earle Peach & Illiteratty
DESCRIPTION:June 20\nEarle Peach & Illiteratty\nBritannia Shipyards – Chinese Bunkhouse\n5180 Westwater Drive\n7:30pm\nPresented by the Steveston Folk Guild. We’re proud to welcome Illiteratty back to SFG. It has been a while. They play a wide range of musical styles\, such as original swing\, European cabaret\, celtic\, rockabilly\, and off course folk. The bands full compliment includes guitar\, mandolin\, violin\, standup base\, and small percussion allows for music which is compassionate\, funny\, angry\, idiosyncratic\, original and extremely varied. Well that definitely is a mouthful. Earle\, a prolific songwriter\, has been writing songs since he was 12 years old. He has more self penned songs in his arsenal than the band can perform in one show\, so expect a great time with foot tapping\, hand clapping\, and moments that will become memories. Don’t miss this.\nWebsite: http://www.stevestonfolk.net/

SUMMARY:Joselito Macapagal: The Joy of Seeing
DESCRIPTION:June 25 – September 23\nJoselito Macapagal: The Joy of Seeing\nRichmond Cultural Centre Annex\n7660 Minoru Gate\nPresented by the Richmond Art Gallery. The Joy of Seeing presents a selection of realistic and semi-abstract watercolour\, oil\, and acrylic paintings created between 2020 and 2022 by Richmond-based Filipino-Canadian artist Joselito Macapagal. His work captures fleeting yet memorable moments from his everyday life and travels: the bustling produce aisle in a local market\, pre-storm clouds at Macdonald Beach\, the distinctive nipa hut in the Philippines\, and a steaming churro cart in Mexico. Using painting as a form of mediation and storytelling\, Macapagal invites the audience into a world where he shares his joy of translating the colours\, textures\, lines\, and shapes of such scenes in his paintings.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/the-joy-of-seeing
