SUMMARY:Exhibition: Membranes and Pith 305 & Reverie 25
DESCRIPTION:April 15 2024 – March 15\, 2025\nExhibition: Membranes and Pith 305 & Reverie 25\nCanada Line – Aberdeen Station\nThe Aberdeen Canada Line Station Art Wrap is presented in partnership with City of Richmond Public Art. What emotions or memories can food unearth? What do our meals reveal about our sense of belonging\, family and history? In Membranes and Pith 305 and Reverie 25\, Vancouver-based multidisciplinary artist Cherry Archer utilizes the evocative powers of culinary plants deeply rooted in her Trinidadian heritage to create images that awaken memories of her family and culture. She freezes produce in water\, creating a “botanical ice tile\,” which she then illuminates with coloured light\, photographs\, and prints in large format.\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/cherry-archer

SUMMARY:Photography Exhibition: HONG WO 同和
DESCRIPTION:October 19 – December 31\nPhotography Exhibition: HONG WO 同和\nCity of Richmond Archives\, Richmond Cultural Centre\n7700 Minoru Gate\nHong Wo & Co. General Merchants and its owner Ling Lam have a rich history that intersects with the development of Richmond. In the late nineteenth century\, Ling Lam\, a young immigrant from China\, arrived in Victoria. At this time\, the Chinese Immigration Act was in place\, a discriminatory law requiring all migrants from China to pay a head tax in order to enter Canada. Despite such barriers\, Lam soon moved to Vancouver\, where he studied English and worked in local canneries. In 1895\, Lam purchased property in Steveston and opened the Hong Wo store\, whose Chinese name 同和 means “Peace Together” or “Living in Harmony.”\nWebsite: https://www.richmondartgallery.org/hong-wo

Thirty years ago\, they told the world “We can dance if we want to” with their hit “Safety Dance.” A few years later\, they said to go “Go pop” with the smash “Pop Goes the World.” Although a lot has changed in music over the years\, the Men Without Hats still deliver tracks that get fans moving across the dance floor.\nWebsite: https://greatcanadian.com/event/the-80s-club-richmond/

SUMMARY:Festival of Recorded Movement in Richmond
DESCRIPTION:November 8 – 16\, 2024\nFestival of Recorded Movement in Richmond\nCultural Centre Annex & Lipont Gallery\n\nCinevolution\, City of Richmond\, and Lipont Gallery are partnering with F-O-R-M to bring a taste of the Festival of Recorded Movement to Richmond screens for the first time!\n\nScreens are an integral part of our daily lives\, constantly within reach. Yet rarely do we pause to consider what they might offer beyond the everyday. This year’s Public Screens program invites you to engage with these familiar surfaces from a different perspective. Each film\, though under 5 minutes\, encourages us to step out of our routines and reflect on the pieces of ourselves we don’t often take time to celebrate—the moments that shape us\, stay with us\, and shift as we move through the world.\n\nPreviously only on view in Vancouver\, these films can now be experienced at the lobby of the Richmond Cultural Centre Annex (7660 Minoru Gate\, Richmond\, BC V6Y 1R8) and on the outdoor screens at Lipont Gallery (4211 No. 3 Road Richmond BC across from the Aberdeen Station) throughout the festival period.\n\nhttps://www.lipontgallery.ca/artists/formrichmond/

SUMMARY:Ask The Wind – Steveston Folk Guild
DESCRIPTION:November 21\nAsk The Wind – Steveston Folk Guild\nBritannia Shipyards – Chinese Bunkhouse\n5180 Westwater Drive\n7:30pm\n“Ask The Wind” is a dynamic folk trio with Maya on fiddle\, Daniel on guitar and vocals\, and Atlin on piano and vocals. They are rooted in folk\, country\, Celtic and jazz\, drawing inspiration from larger-than- life stories and lived in experiences. With Maya’s Celtic fiddle background in Vancouver\, Daniel’s guitar playing with its Prairie origins\, combined with Atlin’s classical training\, you end up with a very incredible blend of musical influences. This translates into music evoking nostalgia\, excitement\, heartbreak and joy\, a musical road trip. And it’s all in one group. Entry is $12 at the door.\nWebsite: http://www.stevestonfolk.net/
