Artist Biography:
Antoinette moved to Vancouver’s River District in 2025, after maintaining an art practice on Gabriola island for nearly 14 years. Prior to moving to BC, she lived in Saskatchewan, where she was engaged in building her art practice. She grew up in the UK, but has deep connections with the independent British island of Jersey.
Antoinette describes herself as a visual storyteller motivated by lived experience, family history and observation. She works in series which have featured dresses, old family photos and anecdotes, culinary still life and gardens. She has explored memoir through a series of drawings within their larger social and historical context. Her current ongoing series describes incidences from her first year in Canada as an immigrant kindergarten teacher.
In painting, she is presently combining her interest in the environment with inspiration from 17th/18th century Dutch still life, replacing hothouse flowers with wild flowers and weeds from ditches around the local River District area. She works with a variety of drawing materials painting in oil, gouache and egg tempera.
Antoinette holds several degrees in art and arts education from the UK and Saskatchewan and studied traditional painting methods in Italy and Greece. Whilst in Saskatchewan, Antoinette worked for many years as an arts educator in schools, volunteering for arts organizations and teaching at the University of Regina’s Faculty of Education, preparing student teachers to teach Arts Education from K to 12
Antoinette has exhibited across Canada. Her work is in public and private collections.
