Mixed Media Drawings
Biography:
My artistic practice explores the application of artistic language to create paintings that straddle the boundary between the real and the imaginary. Each project begins with thorough research on the subject matter, followed by the creation of multiple small variants. While acrylic on canvas is my primary medium, I also enjoy experimenting with paper and combining drawing, collage, graphite, ink, and watercolor.
Originally from Romania, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the George Enescu National University of Arts in 2001. I currently live and work in Vancouver, BC, where I have participated in some gallery exhibitions.
Artist Statement:
The mixed media drawings in my current series were inspired by a visit to the Cloverdale railway site. Among the various elements, the velocipede particularly captivated me and became the conceptual cornerstone for “Figure and Wheels.”
In this series, I investigate the relationship between figures and wheels through techniques that include drawing, collage, and digital processes. My approach involves erasing, reworking, and reprinting to explore and highlight the dynamic interaction between these elements.
