Cross-Disciplinary Insights in Art
Cross-Disciplinary Insights in Art

Artist Statement

My creative work includes drawing & painting, printmaking, sculpture and installation. I believe that insights in art are supported by a cross-disciplinary practice and I find that my work in one discipline will influence my work in another.

I aspire to express my feelings rather than illustrate them. When I am painting, I’m not aware of what I’m doing. It’s only after a get-acquainted period that I see what I’ve been about.
I let the painting leads me to where it wants to go. It gains a life of its own. Looking at my work opens up that moment to the viewer.

Motivation to do my work comes purely from inner force. In my artwork, I explore the middle ground of life and the universe. I try to reach beyond myself by combining objects that are unlikely to be combined, bold colors and motion, try to eloquently communicate the essence of transformation. In that way I aim to avoid conscious pattern and repetition, when it evolves it is surprising and the brush strokes become alchemical incantations, invoking the unseen forces that shape our reality.

At times, long time designing and installation in theatre has inspired my art work too.

With a career spanning over 4 decades in Fine Arts, advertising and theatre, I try to bring a rich and a diverse background to every brush stroke.

Trained at the prestigious Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, I worked as an art director in international advertising networks and as a celebrated stage designer for prominent theatre productions. My work has been recognized globally, including a feature in “Who’s Who in Contemporary World Theater” by Routledge, UK.
