ArtRich 2021

The Richmond Arts Coalition and the Richmond Art Gallery are proud to produce ArtRich 2021,
a celebration of local artists.
The submission date for ArtRich 2021 has passed.

The event: December 3, 2021 – December 31, 2021.
Opening Reception (if allowed by health regulations): Friday, December 3, 7pm-9pm

EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

The Richmond Arts Coalition, with support from the Richmond Art Gallery and operating funds from the City of Richmond and the BC Arts Council, is pleased to present ArtRich 2021, our fourth juried exhibition for local artists at the Richmond Art Gallery. The exhibition will take place from December 3, 2021, to December 31, 2021. The exhibition provides an opportunity for emerging and established artists from Richmond and nearby communities to exhibit together and celebrate local talent. ArtRich 2021 profiles artists with a connection to the Lower Mainland. Entries are not expected to fit a specific theme – we want to see the work you are most excited to share!

As with ArtRich 2017 and 2019, this year all submissions for adjudication are to be made with digital images – no need to drop off your artwork in person to have it adjudicated.

ENTRY INFORMATION:
The Richmond Arts Coalition (RAC) invites artists with a connection to the Lower Mainland to enter a maximum of two works per artist (regardless of category) for adjudication. Only one work per artist will be selected for the exhibition. Each artist submitting work must be or become a member of the Richmond Arts Coalition. The membership fee is $10 per year (or $45 if you choose a five-year membership). Please note: you must be an individual member of RAC, not just a member of a group that is a RAC member.

CATEGORIES
We welcome a variety of artwork mediums, including  painting, drawing, 3D works, textile/fibre arts, photography, and digital media.

ENTRY FEES:
We recognize that the pandemic has put unusual and unprecedented stress on the finances of many artists. Thanks to a one-time Resiliency grant from the BC Arts Council and the Province of British Columbia, for ArtRich 2021 the usual entry fees have been waived. Note however that all entrants do still need to become members with RAC. Entry forms will not be processed until those entrants have an active membership with RAC.

AWARDS:
Once again, there will be People’s Choice awards for the event, with winners chosen by visitors to the exhibition and announced at the end of the exhibition. There will be three $150 awards for the top vote getters.

TWO WAYS TO ENTER:
1. To enter online, click here: https://richmondartscoalition.com/artrichsubmissions . Fill in the online form, upload up to two images, and submit. (Preferred)
2. If the above form does not work for you, you may enter by email. To do so, please respond to all applicable online form categories and send an email with the information to ArtRich@richmondartscoalition.com. Attach up to two digital images of your artwork.

Methods to pay for a membership are as follows:
1. By Credit Card/PayPal (there is a PayPal button on the online form)
2. By Interac E-Transfer of funds to treasurer@richmondartscoalition.com (if name/email of account is different from that of the ArtRich entrant, please include those details in an email so we can connect the membership to the right entrant!)
3. Mail or deliver cheque or money order payable to Richmond Arts Coalition in a sealed envelope to: Richmond Arts Coalition, 6500 Gilbert Road Richmond, BC, V7C 3V4

ENTRY FORM DEADLINE:
Entries (including active membership status), MUST be received by September 10th, 2021.

CRITERIA FOR ADJUDICATION:
The basis for selection of the art will be responsive to the variety of work submitted, with the understanding that artists make art for different reasons and from different experiences. Jurors will look for new works (completed within the past two years). Jurors will consider the technical execution of the work and its creative exploration, and will select a balanced representation of styles, subject matter, and media from the submissions. To ensure originality and quality, work will NOT be accepted that is: a copy of the work of others; made entirely from a kit or commercial design; and/or an article made entirely from a commercial mould. Artists must be a member of RAC. Jurors will be independent of Richmond Arts Coalition.

SUBMISSION OF WORK FOR ADJUDICATION:
Only online submissions will be accepted for adjudication. Artists are permitted to submit up to two works of art for adjudication. Before emailing your images, please save them as JPEG files. Only the image of your artwork should show (no frames or extraneous backgrounds). Image files should be sized at large enough dimensions to be properly adjudicated (at least 1000px wide or tall), and with a file size smaller than 6 MB. Digital media works should be no longer than 10 minutes and saved as a standard video filetype. Digital media works (such as videos) can be provided via online submission form, weblink, or email attachment. Direct any questions to ArtRich@richmondartscoalition.com. All artists will be notified via email about whether their work has been selected by October 1, 2021.

SELECTED WORKS:
The Committee will take the utmost care in handling the work but cannot be responsible for loss or damage. Artwork must be dry and ready to be displayed, with (for 2D work) a way to be hung onto the wall (such as a hanging sleeve, cleat, or loops/rings on the back of the work). Interactive computer-based artwork must be presented on a supplied computer. Artwork must be able to be carried easily by one person and fit through a standard door. Works exceeding four feet in width (including the frame), or of excessive weight or height, will be refused entry by the Committee receiving the work at the time of delivery. The decision of the Committee is final. Multi panel or multi component pieces (i.e. diptychs, triptychs) will be accepted; however the whole work cannot exceed the four-foot width limitation as outlined above.

DROP OFF OF WORKS SELECTED:
Selected works must be dropped off at the Richmond Art Gallery on Friday, November 26, between 3pm – 7pm.

EXHIBITION:
The exhibition runs from Friday, December 3, 2021, to Sunday, January 2, 2022. If health regulations allow, all artists who submit pieces for the exhibition (not merely those whose pieces were accepted) will be invited via email to join us at the ArtRich 2021 Opening Reception at the Richmond Art Gallery from 7pm–9pm on Friday, December 3, 2021.

SALE OF WORK:
Artists will be asked if they would like their contact information to be given to potential purchasers, should a purchasing inquiry be made. If the artist agrees, the Richmond Arts Coalition will forward their contact information to the potential purchaser.

INSURANCE:
Please note that any insurance claims require a third party appraisal to evaluate the market value of the work in relation to the insurance value claimed. Works do not need to be insured.

PICKUP OF WORK FOLLOWING EXHIBITION:
Work must be collected from the Richmond Art Gallery between 2pm – 7pm on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. There is no storage space at the Gallery so work not picked up on this date will be charged a storage fee of $5.00/day/item. Work not picked up within 2 weeks will be discarded. When picking up work, please bring the necessary materials to wrap it in – the Gallery does not supply them.

PUBLICITY:
By entering this call, permission is given to the Richmond Arts Coalition and the Richmond Art Gallery to photograph accepted works for publicity and documentary purposes, including promotion of the exhibition on their websites and social media, as well as other media outlets.
