 EXHIBITION INFORMATION

The Richmond Arts Coalition, with support from the Richmond Art Gallery and the City of Richmond, is pleased to present ArtRich 2017, our second bi-annual juried exhibition for local artists at the Richmond Art Gallery from December 2 to 31, 2017. The exhibition provides an opportunity for emerging and established artists from Richmond and nearby communities to exhibit together and celebrate local talent. ArtRich 2017 responds to the past, present and future of this nation by encouraging artists to submit work that reflects upon Canada—pre-contact, now, and towards the future. Artworks submitted to this show should represent the artist’s experiences, ideas or perspectives on the expansive land mass, communities and cultures we now define as Canada. Artists are encouraged in particular to consider the following areas of engagement: Environment, Diversity, and Reconciliation. Your entries should reflect your relationship to our country in some way. New this year are digital submissions (you will not have to drop off your artwork for adjudication) and awards/prizes for winners.

ENTRY INFORMATION: The Richmond Arts Coalition (RAC) invites residents of the Lower Mainland who are 18 years or older to enter a maximum of two works per artist (regardless of category) for adjudication. Only one work per artist will be selected for the exhibition. Each artist submitting work must be or become a member of the Richmond Arts Coalition. The membership fee is $5 per year and is good until Dec. 31, 2018 (or until Dec 2022 if you choose a five-year membership). See http://richmondartscoalition.com/become-a-member/ for more details. (Please note: you must be an individual member of RAC, not just a member of a group that is a RAC member.)

CRITERIA FOR ADJUDICATION:
The basis for selection of the art will be responsive to the variety of work submitted, in realization that artists make art for different reasons and from different experiences. The jurors look for new works (completed within the past two years) that show personal creative explorations and artistic commitment. Jurors also consider the technical execution of the work and select a balanced representation of styles, subject matter, and media from the submissions. To ensure originality and quality, work will NOT be accepted that is: a copy of the work of others; made entirely from a kit or commercial design; and/or an article made entirely from a commercial mould. Artists must be 18 years or older and be a member of RAC. Submitted work should reflect our theme in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary. Jurors will be independent of Richmond Arts Coalition.

DELIVERY OF WORK FOR ADJUDICATION:
Only on-line submissions will be accepted for adjudication. Artists are permitted to submit up to two pieces of original artwork for adjudication. Before emailing your images, please save them as JPEG files (PC or MAC compatible) using the following convention:
• Your name1_image title_year created.jpg
• Your name2_image title_year created.jpg
Only the image of your artwork should show (no frames or extraneous backgrounds). File should be at least 72 dpi, minimum 1000 pixels wide or tall. If file name is too long, abbreviate. Digital media works should be no longer than 10 minutes and saved as a MOV file. Digital media works can be provided on CD/DVD or Media Card. Direct any questions to ArtRich@richmondartscoalition.com.
To help artists who may not be confident creating these photo files, RAC will be offering a workshop at the Richmond Art Gallery on September 14 from 6 – 9 pm. You may bring to the workshop the artwork you wish to photograph for submission to ArtRich. All artists will be notified about whether their work has been selected via email on November 20, 2017.

SELECTED WORKS:
The Committee will take the utmost care in handling the work but cannot be responsible for loss or damage. Artwork must be dry and ready to be displayed. Unframed artwork needs a hanging sleeve, cleat or loops/rings on the back of the work. Interactive computer-based artwork must be presented on a supplied computer. Artwork must be able to be carried easily by one person and fit through a standard door. Works exceeding four feet in width (including the frame), or of excessive weight or height, will be refused entry by the Committee receiving the work at the time of delivery. The decision of the Committee is final. Multi panel or multi component pieces (i.e. diptychs, triptychs) will be accepted; however the whole work cannot exceed the four-foot width limitation as outlined above. Artists whose work is exhibited may be asked to provide a short (2-3 sentences) artist’s statement about that particular work. This statement may be used in the exhibition as part of the label or featured on the Richmond Arts Coalition website: richmondartscoalition.com.

DROP OFF OF WORKS SELECTED: Selected works must be dropped off at the Richmond Art Gallery on Saturday, November 25 from 10 am – 4 pm.

EXHIBITION: The exhibition runs from Saturday, December 2 to Sunday, December 31, 2017. All artists who submit pieces for the exhibition will be invited via email to join us at the ArtRich 2017 Opening Reception at the Richmond Art Gallery from 7:00 – 9:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2017.

SALE OF WORK: All sales of artwork will be handled by the Richmond Arts Coalition. A 20% commission will be charged on the sale of any work. The artist concerned will be notified of the sale by email. The Richmond Arts Coalition will issue a cheque to the artist as soon as all aspects of the sale are completed.

INSURANCE: Please note that any insurance claims require a third party appraisal to evaluate the market value of the work in relation to the insurance value claimed.

PICKUP OF WORK FOLLOWING EXHIBITION: Work must be collected from the Richmond Art Gallery between 12 pm – 8 pm, Wednesday, January 3, 2018. There is no storage space at the Gallery so work not picked up on this date will be charged a storage fee of $5.00/day/item. Work not picked up within 2 weeks will be discarded.

PUBLICITY: By entering this call, permission is given to the Richmond Arts Coalition and the Richmond Art Gallery to photograph accepted works for publicity and documentary purposes, including promotion of the exhibition on their websites and social media, as well as other media outlets.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: All concerns or questions must be addressed to the ArtRich 2017 Committee: ArtRich@richmondartscoalition.com. In all cases the ArtRich 2017 Committee has the final decision. Do not contact Richmond Art Gallery with questions.
