Multidisciplinary Artist
Peter Sickert is a Vancouver based multidisciplinary artist whose work encompasses installation, text, sculpture, video and photography.
He is interested in storytelling and remembering as a creative act.
What he finds compelling about reminiscences is that they are a blend of fact and fiction; tinted by societal norms, individual personalities and perceptions. Recollecting is a means of mediating between the perceived reality of ”history” and individual memory.
Sickert investigates the vague spaces of both individual and collective memory that lie between historical events, mythology and storytelling. He wants to reveal the hidden phenomena that underlie the everyday and that define our place in the world. These phenomena are informed by memories, emotions and artifacts.
His assemblages and installations string together recollections, hauntings, objects, historic events and coincidences into a Moebius strip like continuum in which fact and fiction entangle, telling tales of wonder, the tragic and absurd.
Peter is currently an MFA student at ECUAD, he also holds a Degree in Architecture from UBC and an Advanced Studies Certificate in Painting from ECUAD.
