Guohua and Other Forms
Guohua and Other Forms

Artist Statement

Before I discovered art, I – like many others – was content with seeing only the bigger picture, unaware of the intricate beauty that surrounded me. I had unknowingly starved my mind of the richness the world had to offer. My first encounter with painting was through Guohua, the traditional Chinese art form that captures the essence of life through fluidity, motion, and vivid expression. Yet, while I admired its elegance, I found its rigid conventions too confining.

My work is a contemporary evolution of Guohua, blending its spirit with my own vision of raw, unfiltered beauty. I integrate both Eastern and Western techniques, combining traditional rice paper with Western materials and layering vibrant pigments to create depth and movement. This fusion allows me to break boundaries – honoring tradition while embracing innovation.

In today’s fast-paced world, where stress and pressure weigh heavily on people’s shoulders, painting has become my way of release – a space where I can slow down, express my emotions, and regain balance. Each brushstroke is a moment of meditation, a practice in patience, and a reflection of my inner world. Through my art, I hope to not only share beauty but also offer a sense of peace and introspection, inviting viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.
