Yue Baoyu

Artist Biography
Yue Baoyu is a primarily representational painter with an engineering background, born in the countryside of Northeastern China. He has shown artistic talent since childhood and concentrated on his ever/ refined craftsmanship since the early 1980s. His mathematics and A-plus grade mechanical drafting Experience contribute to his artistic style with strict discipline. His tenacious passion in art led to his academic pursuit in painting and drawing at NSCAD University. He is currently exploring themes in his paintings that combine ideas inspired modernism and postmodernism.

Artist Statement
Becoming an artist is my childhood dream. Drawing with exactitude in likeness is my peerless tour de force as an elementary school student. Vicissitudes in my life never fade away my instinctual passion in the art pursuit. Solitary meditation in studio sessions has become my spiritual oasis in the desert of material consumerism. My paintings and drawings are not hastily but slowly and rendered in every detail using the movie technique called deep perspective. I enjoy the slow process of art making to let go the otherwise hustle and bustle of daily activities, thus achieve a state of contemplation. On the journey of my painting process, I will start with Renaissance painting technique using pencil drawing aimed to catch the likeness in very fine lines, then I will apply multi-layer painting technique. Contemplation in travel experience, literature and photography and all retrospective fond memories entails serendipitous sparks of inspiration and ecstatic moments of eureka! Wonderful unexpected results on the canvas can only be achieved upon the executive completion when I become unconsciously self-moved to my heart satisfaction with the strong inner voice HOORAY BRAVO FANTABULOUS GORGEOUS ETC ETC. My slow art making process is truly self healing and conducive for all round humanist wellness. As the proverb goes:: STILL WATER RUNS DEEP. FINE WORK REQUIRES SLOW CRAFTSMANSHIP.
