Journey is a series of five acrylic paintings depicting the clouds of British Columbia using what Calubad describes as a “hyper-impressionistic” approach. Rendered with a seemingly flattened perspective with an emphasis in texture, movement and light, Calubad’s paintings are filled with layers that convey emotions and sentiments that Calubad restrains from expressing in her daily life. Home is a series of three acrylic paintings that showcases Leon’s Ecuadorian background in tandem with nostalgic memories of her childhood in Richmond.
