Biography:
Elena is a full-time visual artist based in West Vancouver who primarily works with oil paints. Her techniques range from classical realism to contemporary impressionism, incorporating everything from fine glazing to bold brushstrokes and expressive palette knife work. “The subject, the situation, and most importantly, the mood—all influence how a piece comes to life,” Elena explains. “It’s up to the artist to draw on every available tool and technique to capture that unique, fleeting moment.”
Throughout her life, Elena has had the opportunity to reside in various parts of the globe. Although she was born in Moscow, USSR, she spent her childhood in Beijing, China, and eventually settled in Vancouver, Canada, in 2002.
Elena has consistently worked on honing her abilities and talents to create paintings that capture the everyday experiences and transformations she observes, ranging from natural scenery to human faces. Elena values capturing the first impression of the object, scene, or moment, as well as the unique connection she feels to it. For decades Elena has exhibited her works around the city in local galleries and public places.
Her painting “Baroque Style Still Life in Red” has been selected as a Finalist in April 2025 BoldBrush Art Contest & Exhibit, and has been featured in Art Collector newsletter: https://collectors.boldbrush.com/p/elena-senatorova

Classes, Lessons, and Commissions:
Elena is teaching oil painting classes in Squamish Arts & North Van Arts, and does private lessons at home.
