The event: December 7, 2019 – December 31, 2019.
Opening Reception: Friday, December 6, 7pm-9pm
The submission period for ArtRich 2019 has passed.
The Richmond Arts Coalition, with support from the Richmond Art Gallery and operating funds from the City of Richmond, is pleased to present ArtRich 2019, our third bi-annual, juried exhibition for local artists at the Richmond Art Gallery. The exhibition will take place from December 7th, 2019, to December 31st, 2019. The exhibition provides an opportunity for emerging and established artists from Richmond and nearby communities to exhibit together and celebrate local talent. ArtRich 2019 looks to profile artists with a connection to the Lower Mainland. Entries are not expected to fit any specific theme – we want to see the work you are most excited to share!
As with ArtRich 2017, this year all submissions are to be made digitally – no need to drop off your artwork in person to have it adjudicated.
ENTRY INFORMATION: The Richmond Arts Coalition (RAC) invites artists with a connection to the Lower Mainland who are 18 years or older to enter a maximum of two works per artist (regardless of category) for adjudication. Only one work per artist will be selected for the exhibition. Each artist submitting work must be or become a member of the Richmond Arts Coalition. The membership fee is $10 per year (or $45 if you choose a five-year membership). Online entry payment options include the ability to include your membership fee with your entry fee. (Please note: you must be an individual member of RAC, not just a member of a group that is a RAC member.)

CRITERIA FOR ADJUDICATION:
The basis for selection of the art will be responsive to the variety of work submitted, in realization that artists make art for different reasons and from different experiences. The jurors look for new works (completed within the past two years) that show personal creative explorations and artistic commitment. Jurors also consider the technical execution of the work and select a balanced representation of styles, subject matter, and media from the submissions. To ensure originality and quality, work will NOT be accepted that is: a copy of the work of others; made entirely from a kit or commercial design; and/or an article made entirely from a commercial mould. Artists must be 18 years or older and be a member of RAC. Jurors will be independent of Richmond Arts Coalition.
DELIVERY OF WORK FOR ADJUDICATION:
Only on-line submissions will be accepted for adjudication. Artists are permitted to submit up to two works of art for adjudication. Before emailing your images, please save them as JPEG files. Only the image of your artwork should show (no frames or extraneous backgrounds). Image files should be sized at large enough dimensions to be properly adjudicated (at least 1000px wide or tall), and with a filesize smaller than 6 MB. Digital media works should be no longer than 10 minutes and saved as a standard video filetype. Digital media works (such as videos) can be provided via online submission form, weblink, on CD/DVD, via Media Card, or via email if the filesize is small. Direct any questions to ArtRich@richmondartscoalition.com. All artists will be notified about whether their work has been selected via email by September 11, 2019.
The Committee will take the utmost care in handling the work but cannot be responsible for loss or damage. Artwork must be dry and ready to be displayed. Unframed artwork needs a hanging sleeve, cleat or loops/rings on the back of the work. Interactive computer-based artwork must be presented on a supplied computer. Artwork must be able to be carried easily by one person and fit through a standard door. Works exceeding four feet in width (including the frame), or of excessive weight or height, will be refused entry by the Committee receiving the work at the time of delivery. The decision of the Committee is final. Multi panel or multi component pieces (i.e. diptychs, triptychs) will be accepted; however the whole work cannot exceed the four-foot width limitation as outlined above. Artists whose work is exhibited may be asked to provide a short (2-3 sentences) artist’s statement about that particular work. This statement may be used in the exhibition as part of the label or featured on the Richmond Arts Coalition website: https://www.richmondartscoalition.com.
DROP OFF OF WORKS SELECTED: Selected works must be dropped off at the Richmond Art Gallery on Friday, November 29th from 1pm – 8pm.
EXHIBITION: The exhibition runs from Saturday, December 7th, 2019, to Sunday, January 5th, 2020. All artists who submit pieces for the exhibition (not merely those whose pieces were accepted) will be invited via email to join us at the ArtRich 2019 Opening Reception at the Richmond Art Gallery from 7pm–9pm on Friday, December 6th, 2019.
SALE OF WORK: Artists will be asked if they would like their contact information to be given to potential purchasers, should a purchasing inquiry be made. If the artist agrees, the Richmond Arts Coalition will forward their contact information to the potential purchaser.
INSURANCE: Please note that any insurance claims require a third party appraisal to evaluate the market value of the work in relation to the insurance value claimed.
PICKUP OF WORK FOLLOWING EXHIBITION: Work must be collected from the Richmond Art Gallery between 3pm – 8pm on January 2nd, 2020. There is no storage space at the Gallery so work not picked up on this date will be charged a storage fee of $5.00/day/item. Work not picked up within 2 weeks will be discarded. When picking up work, please bring the necessary materials to wrap it in – the Gallery does not supply them.
PUBLICITY: By entering this call, permission is given to the Richmond Arts Coalition and the Richmond Art Gallery to photograph accepted works for publicity and documentary purposes, including promotion of the exhibition on their websites and social media, as well as other media outlets.
FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: All concerns or questions must be addressed to the ArtRich 2019 Committee: ArtRich@richmondartscoalition.com. In all cases the ArtRich 2019 Committee has the final decision. Do not contact the Richmond Art Gallery with questions.
